Impromptu ATV trip to Wayne National Forest

impromptu atv ride in ohio wayne national forest

Sometimes we get a little tired of riding in the backyard or the local park. That's the sad story about riding ATVs in suburban areas. You can't really ride ATV the way you want to ride ATV unless you pack all your ATV gears and stuff into the pickup and head somewhere. and guess what? That's precisely what me and a couple of my friends did…out of the blue. We were having a couple of drinks at a dinghy little pub and then we got a little hyped up talking about needing to ride our ATVs and…boom…something hit and we started packing. And we headed out to Wayne National Forest in Ohio .

The trails in Wayne National Forest is quite amazing…all 300 miles of the trails is open for all things mobile…ATVs, hikers, mountain biking, horses, 4-wheelers…etc. Take note that Wayne National Park allows ATVs, Mountain Biking and Horse riding on the Trail from April 15 th to December every year in an effort to prevent resource damage and bring down the cost of maintaining this beautiful national forest.

Wayne National Forest is indeed the perfect place to ride ATV for both experts and beginners. The ATV trail laces through the forests and provides intermittent relief for ATV riders because every time you hit a hard one, you're given a short rest with easier path…that's before you're hit with another hard one. Overall, Wayne National Forest is a great place for beginners to start learning ATV. We had no beginners with us – but just thought you'd like to know just in case you decide to bring the kids along.

The Wayne National Forest ATV trail consists of three systems – the Hanging Rock ATV trail system, the Pine Creek ATV trail system and the Monday Creek Trail System. The thing that we appreciated the most was the fact that Wayne National Forest ATV trail is clearly marked indicating whether the trail ahead was going to be a tough one, a mildly difficult one or easy-as-pie ones. This will definitely help you decide on which route to take according to skill level.

Along the ATV trails, we saw quite a fair number of large hills where you can explore and measure yourself up. I didn't make the climb because it looked mighty rough for me – Mike, my friend, did and didn't make it all the way up to the top but he said the climb was amazing although difficult. I guess he should have considered the backpack he weighed a ton and his ATV was stuffed with beer cans before making the attempt to get up the hill.

One word of caution, Wayne National Forest ATV trail is a very well-organized and well-maintained ATV trail. Because of erosion of soil and sometimes consistent rain, the paths have been secured with rocks lining up at the sides. Be careful with those rocks especially when the ATV trail narrows up…unless you want to go home with a damaged undercarriage.

We had a blast there and spent the night at a nearby cabin, drinking cold beer, making up stories and admiring ourselves because we finished. Well, if you have nowhere else to go and need to get your ATV up and going…head on over to Wayne National Forest in Ohio .
