Getting wild and woozy in Alaska ATV Trails
June 12 , 2007
If you're a hard core ATV fan and never been to Anchorage Alaska for a truly good ride, you don't know what you're missing. Listen, every time we take to the Alaskan ATV trails there, we end up wishing our families would move to Alaska ! There's just that much space to ride an ATV there and the scenery is jaw-dropping and nature, in my personal opinion, is biased in Alaska 's favor. Every other part of the country just doesn't measure up – but that's coming from an old ATV hard core fan like me. every time the words Anchorage or Alaska is mentioned, my heart skips a beat and I feel the Alaskan ATV trails beckoning me, taunting me to come challenge nature again. It's the kind of haunting feeling you get that leaves you sleepless! The deep and rugged backcountry of Alaska is best ridden in a group, I have to say, because it can get pretty rough out there. so, if you want to believe what I say in this article, be my guest but start calling all your ATV friends right now and get them packing for the ATV trip too. In fact, if you're not really into getting lost and bumping into an annoyed grizzly (bear, we mean) because of all the noises from the ATVs, you should try to get a guide who can take you around the backcountry of Alaska . One of the things that you have to do while your trail riding in Anchorage Alaska is to hit one of the beaches. I remember staring out into the horizon and standing there completely speechless with awe. The amazing scenery is totally stunning! Riding in the outback can get a little dangerous on the ATV – not only will the terrain be a little rough but look to the ground and you might see some bear tracks that will send you roaring off on your ATV as fast as those super-powered ATV engines can. You'll start hoping that your ATV can ride faster than a bear can run (heard they're pretty slow runners). And in some parts of the ATV trails in Anchorage , you can even get to spend some time learning how to fish for some trout – catch your own dinner while riding on the ATV trails. It's a good way to pass time, down the beer and also share jokes among each other. Riding ATV in Anchorage Alaska will take days on end, so, it won't make any sense for you to have a 2 day trip there. You won't feel like you got enough of trail riding in Alaska that way. Try roping your friends in for at least 5 days of proper trail riding here. Even then, it won't stop you from wishing there were more days left! I remember one trip to Anchorage Alaska that I did for ATV riding, an instructor-cum-guide leading us through some rough terrain explained that at some point, we will have to cross streams! It sounded exciting and challenging (we'd hate to say we were ‘scared' but heck, we were!) but he mentioned that since his ATV was a Rhino, it was easier crossing the streams. We each had to follow his instruction and had to do it slowly and one at a time. We don't want several ATVs stuck in streams and all winch-less. Talkeetna Mountains gave me the most memories not only because it was beautiful but it also gave me one of the most challenging rides ever! Swampy and muddy, swift-swirling rivers to cross, mean mountains to climb…the works! But like I always say, who's complaining? |
